Chunshuyao Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in Chengliu Town, Jiyuan County, Henan Province, which was named by Petroleum geology team, Henan Geological Survey in 1960 and was cited publicly by Henan Geological Survey for the first in 1965. Original Chunshuyao formation referred to the strata of middle Yanchang Group. It was ascribed to the lower part of Upper Triassic by Jiaozuo Mining Institute in 1982.

Lithology and Thickness
The Chunshuyao Formation is characterized by the interbedded of greyish yellow, yellowish green massive-medium fine-grained feldspathic sandstone, siltstone and greyish green, yellowish green, greyish yellow clay, sandy clay, intercalated with medium-grained feldspathic quartz sandstone, feldspathic sandstone, marlstone and coal stems. Thickness is 512 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Basal of Chunshuyao Formation, comprised of greyish yellow thick fine-grained feldspathic sandstone intervening with clay, lies conformably in contact with the underlying Youfangzhuang Fm
Upper contact
Conformable in contact to overlying Tanzhuang Fm
Regional extent
Chunshuyao formation is mainly distributed western Henan, including Jiyuan, Yima and Yiyang, but was most well-developed in Xichengliu, West Henan Province.
